As a response to the food we eat, especially fatty foods, the gallbladder contracts and secretes some of the bile into the small intestine to help in fat digestion and absorption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Gallstones:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Small, hard deposits called gallstones can form in the gallbladder. Gallstones are made of cholesterol, salts, and some other chemicals. If gallstones cause any symptoms gallbladder needs to be removed by surgery. gallstones can&#8217;t be passed or broken. These factors may increase the risk of gallstones:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>being female<br>being age 40 and older<br>having a family history of gallstones<br>sedentary lifestyle<br>Obesity<br>pregnancy<br>more than three deliveries<br>Drugs: high dose oral contraceptives, gemfibrozil, etc<br>fasting<br>Severe weight change (more than 700 gr per week) in a short time<br>having high fat and high cholesterol diet<br>Diabetes<br>certain blood conditions such as sickle cell anemia, etc.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>Symptoms of gallstones:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4>Gallstones can be asymptomatic for a long time.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Abdominal pain: may radiate to the shoulders or back<\/li><li>Nausea and vomiting<\/li><li>Heartburn and indigestion<\/li><li>Bloating<\/li><li>Fever<\/li><li>Jaundice: Yellowish skin and eyes<\/li><li>Having fever and abdominal pain and jaundice at the same time requires an emergency visit!<\/li><li>change in stool color: pale or gray stool<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"424\" height=\"510\" src=\"http:\/\/www.drdavarpanah.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-330\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.drdavarpanah.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/image.png 424w, http:\/\/www.drdavarpanah.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/image-249x300.png 249w, http:\/\/www.drdavarpanah.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/image-121x146.png 121w, http:\/\/www.drdavarpanah.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/image-42x50.png 42w, http:\/\/www.drdavarpanah.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/image-62x75.png 62w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 424px) 100vw, 424px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>How is abdominal pain caused by gallstones? The gallstones move and obstruct the bile duct. in response to this obstruction, the gallbladder intensively contracts and the person experiences it as severe abdominal pain.<br>How jaundice occurs? Bilirubin is the main constituent of bile.
